The Spanish Supercar With a Viper V10: The Forgotten Fury of the Spania GTA Spano

When you think of supercars, countries like Italy, Germany, and maybe even the UK come to mind. However Spain… Not so much. But tucked away in Valencia, a small automaker called Spania GTA set out to change that narrative. The result was a twin-turbocharged monster with over 900 horsepower and the heart of a Dodge Viper… literally.
This is the story of the GTA Spano, the Spanish supercar you’ve probably never heard of, but absolutely need to.

American Muscle Meets Spanish Engineering
At the core of the GTA Spano lies one of the most unexpected powerplants in European supercar history: the Dodge Viper’s 8.0-liter V10. Known for its brutish, naturally aspirated character, this engine has powered the iconic Viper across several generations and even found its way into the Dodge Ram SRT-10. But Spania GTA had bigger plans.
Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the first-generation GTA Spano took the Viper V10 and pushed it even further. By strapping on a pair of turbochargers and heavily modifying the internals, Spania GTA extracted monstrous performance figures, far surpassing anything Dodge ever released!
With over 900 horsepower on tap and a curb weight of under 3,000 lbs, the Spano was just powerful… and truly fast. Faster than the Viper, and lighter too, thanks to its chassis made from titanium, carbon fiber, and Kevlar.

Limited Numbers, Unlimited Performance
The GTA Spano was built with exclusivity in mind. Just 99 units were planned for the first generation, each one an exotic cocktail of speed, technology, and rarity. It came equipped with either a seven-speed sequential transmission or a manual automatic, and it wasn’t shy about showing its motorsport roots—Spania GTA brought over 15 years of racing experience to the table.
Pirelli even developed special tires for the Spano to handle its aggressive power-to-weight ratio.

Second Generation: Stronger, Smarter, and Lighter
In 2015, Spania GTA returned to Geneva with a second-generation Spano—an evolution in both form and function. It retained the same V10 engine but upped the ante once again. Now pushing 912 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque, the Spano could launch from 0 to 60 in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 mph.
What really set this version apart was the use of graphene, a material lighter and stronger than carbon fiber. The new chassis was a carbon monocoque infused with graphene and supported by titanium elements, giving it exceptional rigidity while keeping weight down to around 3,086 lbs.
Even the interior leather was laced with graphene. A detail that feels part science fiction, part boutique luxury.

The GTA Spano Hits Hollywood
As if being one of the most powerful V10-powered cars on the planet wasn’t enough, the GTA Spano also landed a role in Hollywood.
In the 2014 film Need For Speed, the Spano shared the screen with supercar royalty: the Bugatti Veyron, McLaren P1, and Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. The plot might’ve been about revenge-fueled street racing, but for car enthusiasts, it was a showcase of elite metal—and the Spano fit right in.
Only one GTA Spano was used for the movie, and that exact car is currently for sale at Super Garage Marbella for a whopping $1.62 million. With just 621 miles on the odometer and a unique place in film history, this Spano is a collector’s dream—assuming you can afford the price tag.

What Happened to Spania GTA?
Despite the performance, pedigree, and movie-star status, the GTA Spano never took the world by storm. Production numbers remain vague, and it’s unclear if all 99 planned units were ever completed or sold.
Today, Spania GTA has shifted gears, focusing instead on importing the Fisker Karma into Spain and working on a new electric off-roader called the Vinco—a high-performance buggy for the EV age.
But the GTA Spano? That remains their magnum opus—a Spanish underdog that dared to challenge the automotive elite with American muscle and cutting-edge materials.
A Missed Opportunity or an Underrated Legend?
The GTA Spano represents one of those rare cases where ambition, engineering, and performance all aligned—but the spotlight never fully landed on it. Maybe the badge wasn’t prestigious enough. Maybe the market just wasn’t ready for a Spanish supercar with a Viper engine. Whatever the case, the GTA Spano remains one of the most intriguing and underrated hypercars of the last decade.
And for those who know… it’s a legend worth remembering.
