1994 Tesla NSX?

Imagine taking a classic icon like the 1994 Acura NSX and swapping its heart for something... electric. That’s exactly what a Shadetree mechanic pulled off by ripping out the legendary V6 and replacing it with a Tesla Model S motor. The NSX, already known for its precision and balance, now packs a high-torque punch courtesy of an electric Tesla drivetrain. It's a wild move—merging the retro look of the NSX with an electric drivetrain —and one that’s both exciting and controversial.

The conversion wasn’t simple. This custom job required cutting into the subframe, fabricating new mounts, and even borrowing a battery pack from a Chrysler Pacifica. Though it currently runs on a small 16 kWh setup, the owner plans to level up with more juice from a Nissan Leaf battery. It’s a blend of ingenuity and resourcefulness, transforming this beloved JDM sports car into an eco-friendly rocket.

The way I see it, it's a bold leap. You’ve gotta respect the creativity and effort that went into making this happen. But let's be real—part of what made the NSX so special was that glorious V6 engine. That sound, that feel—it’s hard to replace. While the Tesla motor delivers smooth, instant power, something about removing the car’s soul feels bittersweet…
This electric swap speaks to where a portion of the car scene is headed—thinking of alternative routes to gas engines, and giving old legends a new flavor. It’s a cool experiment, but for die-hard NSX fans, this move could be seen as more of a gamble. You might just miss the roar of that V6.
